In The Interim by Lacey SmithIn The Interim

We,
as neutral bodies,
knew nothing until these recent days
when I, a mass of untouched colors
moved slowly and without measure
into the realm of you.
For when we were young,
I unblemished and you quickly growing,
we put our words in pockets,
kept them days on end,
played the care as
just pretend, but
Your mouth is real.
now it teaches me the language of
being true, of knowing
what needs to be done and of
knowing the words to
really say, we make these
sounds
as we speak, within inches of
these two worlds, these
colliding atoms and spirals,
under the lids
of your
eyes
that look back, that read and
pause, that take it in because now
it is so real
we are more than these
false memories, this
replaying of an instant.
we are more than
a moment's love, for
in my dream you are here
and you tell me what I
need to know
and which way I
ought to see it
(and you do not
leave without
a hush, you
do not go until
the pain has
stopped)
