Who is man - for Terri Shiavo by Alison McKenzieWho is man,
That a rose should be trampled
For being simple in beauty
And lacking glory?
What is the law,
That any flower should be destroyed
For needing rudimentary tenderness -
Simple water and sunlight -
Though it yields little to our joy?
What is society
That it should choose to slowly crush
One family's garden of hope -
One small blossom that harmed no one -
But shone enough to make her parents smile?
Who is man,
That a rose should be trampled?

I should add that if it was clearly her wish to be allowed to die in that state, and many courts determined enough evidence was presented to suggest that it was her wish, perhaps my sadness is as irrelvant as my observations.
