Warrior with Steel Cross

by Amanda Bullington

The warrior with arms of steel
Displayed the cross of God, his
Weapon, glinting fiercely for the
Enemy to see. With wooden handles
Crested by God's name, and Jesus'
Funeral pyre transmuted into a
Metal no fire could surmount, the
Valiant martyr attacked his
Battlefield -- victory assured.
By God's blessing, donned with
Weapon of God's loving womb, the
Warrior knew he would outlive all
Others drawn to battle. Never in
His mind did doubts infect him;
No, he knew himself, the messiah
Of (his) modern time, never to
Descend below the Golden Gates
While living or thereafter. His
Heart was set on conquering the
Happy land, and so he won.

Author's Note: For maybe not the first time, my mind realized today the similarity between the shape of a sword and a cross. Specifically, the broadsword and similar weapons. Way to bring religion into battle, eh?

this made me think of all of those great old epic poems. and that's a very interesting epiphany you had about the sword/cross connection.
