nothing if not conquerors

by Amanda Conlogue

I'm learning
what love is
and what it isn't
that sometimes it's more
heartache than joy

and with every break
there is an expansion

a secret chamber where
passion, desperation
despair take root
bloom with the weeds
become impossibly entangled

we do not speak
of this overgrowth
of the inability
to conqueor this jungle
its trecherous majesty

because we are nothing
if not conqueorors
eclipsing lands
spreading our ideals of love
and hate, moving in circles
'round one another until
we are dizzy and sick

lost, no compass
and the stars blocked
by canopies of leaves
and blossoms
