Ruin

by Brian Francis

I got the call one day,
said he had gone away
And I didn’t quite understand
But the message became clear in a moment
He had made his last stand
His life had tragically ended
By his choice and by his own hand
And now I wonder what happened
How could his life get so dreary?
How could the hole get too deep?
Was he blinded by love or by fury?
Why didn’t he turn to me?

We gathered around and burned candles
Stumbled over old memories
Trying to give his life some kind of meaning
Something other than deep misery
There were tears and there was laughter
And deep down pain in our souls
And in the eyes of those gathered
The story of sadness and loss was told
And in the echoes of those moments
Could be heard that same refrain
How could his life get so dreary?
How could the hole get too deep?
Was he blinded by love or by fury?
Why didn’t he turn to me?
Why didn’t he turn to me?

it reads like a song, probabely one of those I love to listen to when I'm feeling blue. Great read!
