Where I Belong by Shonda CreemerI am soothed by the melody of Momma's
windchimes ~ dancing in the breeze ~
reminding me that she is only an
earth's breath away.
I can see the light above my Nannie's
stove in her kitchen ~ when she closes
the shutters, tucking herself in ~ she
let's me know all is as it should be.
Every night at a quarter to eleven ~
I hear my little brother's souped-up
engine as he pulls into the drive ~
another day for him is done, for now
he is safe.
I am secure in the knowledge that if
need be ~ within seconds, my Daddy is
able to scare the real boogeyman away ~
as Daddies have always done for their
little girls ~ no matter their age.
I listen for the change of the bark-bark-yip
given by my parent's second set of children
~ Roadside, Rusty, Stubby, & Dutchess ~ and
let's not forget Nannie's little Trouble,
telling me if they have found mischief or such.
And as I sit where I sleep ~ in every
moment of my life, I realize
this is my sanctuary
my bliss
my blessings from God
and I am truly in awe of
His place made for me. 03/15/2005 Author's Note: Thank You Father, for giving me a place to call home. (I own the house across the street from my Nannie, and my Momma & Daddy live next door to her. So home is really home!)
