Black and White by Jon-Jacob F DealYeah, I'm a man of the 21st Century
Educated
Liberated
(Inundated)
...Right?
No Hank Aaron, but I've hit my share to deep left--
And caught a bunch, too
Then you took the plate, and I was left watching
A grand slam, way over my head, over the fence
Left gawking, thinking
Why's it all so black and white?
Ebony and ivory
Chocolate and cheesecake
Onyx and opal
Coffee and cream--
Lots of cream, Sugar
'Cause I'm a victim of my own consumption
Thin lips not sensuous
Green eyes not bottomless
These bones lack lengthiness
This skin's not lustrous
And here I am, half a world away
On my knees before your porcelain platter
Licking up dribbles and crumbs from desserts long ago
The sweetness of another's trip to the final frontier
Coating my tongue, making me wonder
What's left for me? 03/15/2005 Posted on 03/15/2005 Copyright © 2024 Jon-Jacob F Deal
