The Light by Charles M HarrisonI open my eyes and look around me.
Darkness, darkness is all that I see.
I listen intently, not a sound do I hear
I can not tell how far or how near.
I reach out my hand nothing do I touch
the cold and emptiness, I have never felt such.
My body trembles and shakes from my fear.
I know not what, where, or why I am here.
The tears fall from my face to the pool at my feet,
This pool of worry, of despair, this is my defeat.
My body shudders there echo's a scream
Oh please, oh please let this be a dream!
Is this my life, what has become of me?
Oh please, please this can not be!
I am trapped in darkness there is no way out!
I am trapped, trapped, though I scream and shout!
I fall to my knees I will cry no more
I want it to end, I have nothing to live for.
I hear a voice calling to me.
I look around a light do I see.
"Cry not my child I have always been here,
I am with you now do not fear."
Oh help me, help me please set me free!
Help me, help me I beg of thee!
"Open your heart and let me in,
only then will your madness end.
I can help only if you reach out to me,
Then and only then, will you be free"
The choice is mine I will not falter.
I will reach out and kneel at God's alter.
Oh joy, joy what do I see?
Light, god's light all around me!
I am free from the darkness free at last!
God has forgiven the sins of my past.
The choice is there for all to make,
open your heart to God's light for your ownd sake. 01/01/1988 Posted on 03/12/2005 Copyright © 2024 Charles M Harrison
