watching dreams burst by Charlie Morgan
she's dries her tears, temporarily
'til the pain comes again.
wept on shoulders that were uncertain
as to her needs, desires.
the dreams of old are now like a pilgarlic
albatross, weighing heavier each day,
as she lugs them from semester to year
alluding herself of a promised future.
her latch-key kids are her heart's domain
and ever-watchful is her care.
delivered daily with Mother's spit and caress,
she gathers them with arms of glory.
sends them out each day into a carnivorous world
that eats grown-ups for lunch
and dines with gluttony on the hearts
and minds of the young.
she's been taught to smile, at every turn
and like a seal, be tossed a fish.
as her dream bursts, flowing from tear ducts
and covering her cheeks, she smiles.
