Leonard Cohen, You Should Have Gone To Camp

by Leonard M Hawkes

"There's No Need To Say Goodbye"

The morning in the mountains
With pines that reach the sky,
Evenings in the firelight,
The loon's cold haunting cry,
These are gifts we've offered,
Ever changing, ever new
From forest, shore and meadow
They bless both me and you.
Now it's come to distances
And all of us must try,
Serving God and Country
Hey, there's no need to say goodbye.

We'll watch for one another
As we wander through our time
In city and in forest
We know this truth we'll find:
That love, you know we send with you
Is like the love you leave;
It's just the way life changes
Like the moon and like the breeze.
Know we're bound in brotherhood
With truths that won't untie
Serving one another
Hey, there's no need to say goodbye.

A morning in the mountains
With pines that reach the sky;
Evenings in the firelight,
The loon's cold haunting cry.
These are gifts we've offered,
Ever changing ever new
From forest, shore, and meadow
They bless both me and you.
Now it's come to distances
And all of us must try,
Serving God and Country
Hey, there's no need to say goodbye.
