time suspended by Charlie Morgan
the Algonquian squaw stirs the orange ashes
of the fire as the child
stirs the dirt beside her.
both stirring their imaginations.
she dreams of the bison backstrap
she'll serve to her man
making him stonger of the strong.
her heart and loins stir.
the child dreams of a rainbow,
her pink mesh-bag holding
all her motherly riches.
her soul of Womanhood stirs.
she stirs the embers of a
living but dying people.
a generation, burning all to live.
both stand: silhouttes in the sunset.
