Julia

by Kalikala Smith

Sparkles of gold adorned her eyes
She was lost in a trance no one could describe
She begged to be alone
And she died by no one's hands but her own.

Julia, we all tried to save you.
Julia, we all tried to claim you.
You were the mess that society had made.
If only you didn't read the magazines that portrayed,
all women with fake beauty and grace
oh Julia.

She couldn't get what she wanted
She thought that happiness in life was a promise
She fell for the lies
If she looked perfect then she'd be alright.

Julia, we all loved you.

Author's Note: A song I wrote about the many lives lost to the world's pettyness.

this poem speaks to all those who let the world tell them what their self image should be and the cost one pays if they try desperately to match it. great one...
