rhyme

by Charlie Morgan

i used to rhyme
heck, all the time.
i'd wince at free verse,
wondering: what's worse?
say something to me, i'd lament;
that's got no rhyming bent?
save your breath, i'd yell still,
my hearing's sliding downhill.
boost me up with rhyming canards
that flow sweetly like the early bards.
and i'll follow consanant to vowel,
your every wisp of the poetic trowel.
but, alas, that was then and this is now,
and x marks the spot of the Tao.
so, from then to now, and now til then
is no time specific, it's all a blend.
of us, it, you, me and all we can glean
from start to finish; even the in-between.
