FOR SALE 'Harchitect' designed castle

by Anne Howe

Once upon a time
When the world was mine
In a little yellow bucket
With a bright blue spade

I was the creator
And the brown brick maker
Of the castle in the sand
With the turrets on top

My little digger hands
Dug and digged and scraped
‘Til the sand piled high
At the castle gate

And my oil rig fingers
Picked and pucked and poked
Down and down for the water
That would fill the moat

Then the Queen came by
And she looked and waved
And said I’d done well
To build it in a day.

But the sun went down
And the ripples of the sea
Came closer and closer
Almost up to me.

As I walked I looked back
And could no longer see
The castle with the turrets
That was built by me
When the Queen came to visit
And she waved at me
I guess it’s time now
To have some tea.

And tomorrow,
I’ll go off to work again
‘Cos I’m a ‘harchitect’ and builder
With a great big plan.

Author's Note: for those of you who are wondering 'harchitect' indicates a young child's grappling with a 'grown up' word = architect
