Precipice

by Angela Cotterman

I sit here
in the midst of hanging
love on the peak
of the roof
like an ornament left
too long after Christmas
Outside the ground thaws
and freezes far
from muddying itself into
green
This, I tell myself,
is grief pushed
away
for the night.
