he wouldn't kiss me goodbye

by Emily G Myers

there are things about your skin
that can never be replaced
& no one's smile kills me like yours
sometimes your laugh rings in my ears
and I am paralyzed by the memory
of the slow soft loving gleam of your eyes

& it sleeps on me heavily
like some loneliness
like some prostitute
like some heart attack

are you wondering
like i am
how long it will take
before you can't live any longer
without a single kiss
from my broken lips?

he kissed me and said
i'd never find anyone
better than him

oh God, i hate him so much
when he's right

Author's Note: i go from day to day
i know where the cupboards are
i know where the car is parked
i know he isn't you
