three minutes
by Charlie Morgan
... is all i got to tell my tale
of a burdened black man, burdened by racism
by society in the south in the fifties for being
black... the program allows three minutes--
per author, to spill the entrails of a sickness
pervasive to all.
we believed...
they believed...
many untruths;
and only
three minutes to clear his name.
Guilty!, his crime: being born
black.
so many humans quashed
by goodness?, by the Lord's way?,
justified by a scared heart.
the tale lives.
