Sanctuary

by Charles M Harrison

Icy fear it rips apart the gentle fibers of my heat.
My throat, it tries to scream to awake me from this dream
The only sound that I hear is of untold horrors near.
Lord I know I must be wary as I search for sanctuary.

The daylight brings no relief from my sorrow and my grief.
All is darkness and I fear that my enemy draws near.
I must flee but which way will take me forever away.
Now I feel I grow weary as I search for sanctuary.

The horror how it closes in, it will crush me and then,
There will be no more fear all that is dark will be clear.
Life, death, one or the other comes like a long lost lover.
And now I know I see it clearly, where I will find sanctuary.

Exceptional work here, very tight and effective for the reader. It seems to draw a very emotional plea for comfort..
