Face Time [reposted] by Bruce W NiedtWhatever happened to face time?
How often have you seen someone
pushing their cart through the supermarket
seeming to talk to themselves, till you notice
their cellphone or hands-free headset,
sometimes even continuing the conversation
as the cashier makes their change?
Do they realize how much they resemble
those homeless folks who push a cartful
of trash down the street, ranting at no one?
Or how about the guy in the basement
whose entire social life is conducted
on the Internet? (Sometimes with good reason
.)
Or the chick with purple hair and a Discman
or an iPod, bopping through crowded streets
and subways with her own personal soundtrack,
but no dialogue?
What can we do about this epidemic
of technological isolation, the lack of
unencumbered, biological interaction?
Please send me your ideas
via fax or e-mail,
or leave a message on my voicemail.
