before an oklahoman first date

by Michelle Floyd

i am mother
to the red dirt you squish
between curious toes
on a sunday morning's hebetude

i am father
to hard, blue blankets kept snug
around unbidden ears
on tuesday's best dressed loneliness

the daughter of your left eye
raised to spread me into a tapestry
of adulation
appreciation

the son in morning flames
lifting out a casual embrace of arms
untrammeled and
free

and i want to love you
with the lineage of my mind
the ancestry of my tongue
and the ménage-laced essence
that will make us one.

would you like to get coffee tomorrow?

a great use of the language, and your imagery is sublime...I disagree with the person that last rated this poem. It's great!

Congrats on POTD!! I love that last line, brings the whole thing home with a big dose of reality. I do wonder if you ever managed to ask him for coffee? :))
