teach college
by Charlie Morgan
in the grocery store line a kid asked:
"...zat a super bowl ring?"
it's not, and i say so...
his eyes peering up at me.
in his four years of life,
it WAS a super bowl ring--to him.
he was as a fish,
questioning what water is?
"what do you do?", he persists.
i teach college, my answer.
wide-eyed, he innocently glared,
"wow, really?" he retorted.
"daddy, that man teaches college!",
turning to his dad he allows.
confused and yet comforted,
"what's college?" he asks.
