found it?

by Charlie Morgan

like the wombat's intrepid travel from birth canal
to pouch,
we search for meaning.

our life is defined
by trials
of endurance
at all times
and
in every way;
and each of us
a Meriwether Lewis,
each
a William Clark
ever-searching
the origin of the mighty Missouri,
hewing out trees,
making canoes to ford
white-water,
scaling sheer rock cliffs,
traversing the unknown
and
making it first--theirs
now, ours.
