her hymen has been broken
for a very long time yet
it doesn't keep you from thinking
she owes you something.

she makes herself pretty enough
so you will touch her
she keeps herself small & quiet
so you will not complain of the space
she takes up.

you force her to compare you to every
other lover and you always come out on top.

of course, you always come out on top.

but you will not marry her. & you say
you will never entirely love her because
it is too pure of a thing to waste on her
and her only.

so she tiptoes around you with please
and thank yous but you are oblivious
to the shadows she creates or the spark
she used to have on that very first date

she was expecting prince charming
there was still hope in her back then
even after you showed up on her
doorstep and gave her flowers
with broken stems.
