Continuation of the Moth Analogy

by Trisha De Gracia

Devilled peace beneath
exterior calm takes hold
in skin so taught with anxious ready
that heady scent of bloom and blood
that place of oasis in desert dry sands
that longing for flight and rebellion.

You're silver key was jagged
dragged across my tongue
inside my drymouth-
my butterfly thighs that flit
from the dull gray exterior
then, into brilliance!
Once splayed
and before you.

And yet,
Oh still
the mock of forever casts shadows
on self-doubt and detriment-
hastens the fall to eternity.
(moth wings?
with labels and documentation?
Dead and then spread
like a bio-lab frivolty?)

And even so
while the words and the venom
spin wires and razors to shear
at the ramshackle home I have made
in your arms
in your kisses and cries
I can taste every lie
still within it.

Your hands alone
had the time to unwind
This faulted and parch-hardened chrysalis.
