(A New Year) Wondering, Wandering Insomnia

by Omi Salavea

Will they miss you when you are gone?
Do they lay awake as you do, wondering?
Where you been, where you really are, where
your heart calls home and where you body puts itself
to rest each night?
Toss over on your other side in an empty bed,
as though it might roll these thoughts out of your head.
you share your bed with hurtful, loving memory, you
share your pillow with a face....
A face made of your tears and sobbing, soaking inward
Does daylight arrive for them just as your soul tucks your heart into dark sleep?
....Like Poe's Raven, alarm clock, perched and staring, squawks:
"You'll Never Know."
