PAPER CUP

by Phil Walling

PAPER CUP

The castle of blood
High up in the clouds
Removes my mask
Prepares my shroud

Pretense in denial
Kneel in prayer
“What reality meglomates the soothsayer?”

.....ah, but I may as well disturb the universe

THE WRITTEN WORD WAS ONCE HEARD - they talk of it
THE WRITTEN WORD WAS ONCE HEARD - in spasms and fits
THE WRITTEN WORD WAS ONCE HEARD - your hands are greasy
THE WRITTEN WORD WAS ONCE HEARD - with sweat and toil

Days can wither and pass you by
Over the seas, gulls can fly
Dogs can fight and men will die
A helpless mother can weep and cry

A ship can travel many nights
A poet may laugh at the writs
A man can suddenly lose his sight
Prophets may stand up for their rights
A bomb can blow the world to bits
.... obliterate the might

But still we share the tormented dream
To cross over this great divide.
