Apartment on Tremont St., Boston, December 29th, 2004 by Kalikala SmithPeering from around a well traveled and less observed road
We notice the burnt layers of red
Striking in the fall, bleak in winter
What delight it must have seen
When women in petitcoats strolled by
And young children frolicked around its strong foundation
Now these cold brick walls witness the brown slush of winter
and drive by shootings
and millions of people honking their horns
polluting the South End
with sounds of irritation and annoyance
And the building looks on with barred windows
and fourteen locks to open just the front door. 01/24/2005 Posted on 01/24/2005 Copyright © 2024 Kalikala Smith

Posted by Matt Forget on 01/25/05 at 04:19 PM Excellent work! I love it. Would you believe that every word you said fits exactly to the area of Boston. However, the South End is so pretty. Drive by shootings are just not allowed! We need to hang out sometime and get some lunch. I know a great place! Ok, listen to me just ramble on and on about stuff....call me sometime.....Nice work! :) |
Posted by Richard Vince on 05/11/06 at 06:03 PM mm. evocative stuff. i often find myself having similar thoughts about some parts of Nottingham, particularly the original Boulevards [Gregory, Radford, Lenton and Castle] that were built in the Victorian era as elegant, tree lined avenues with impressive three storey terraced houses but are now quite heavily trafficked and mostly in rather dodgy areas of the city. very nicely done. |
