SON CALLS

by Mark Maxey

It’s been years my son
And you’ve been all alone
Without a father to call
Today I made that promise
When I phoned to let you know I was there

Too many decisions not sure what’s right
I did the best I could
And now you are within my sight
Not going to let you go
For after all you’re my son

Imagine all the times you called out
And no one there
To see you build your first sand castle
Utter your first word
Or fix that wound that made you cry

Too many decisions not sure what’s right
I did the best I could
And now you are within my sight
Not going to let you go
For after all you’re my son

Someday you will ask how to date
Or fix the car you want so bad
Which will make you come home so late
Coming home to show you made the grade
Such a fine young man you will be

Too many decisions not sure what’s right
I did the best I could
And now you are within my sight
Not going to let you go
For after all you’re my son

Someday you will be make that touchdown
And I will be in the stands cheering
With the words that you're college bound
And all those years you will see my caring

Too many decisions not sure what’s right
I did the best I could
And now you are within my sight
Not going to let you go
For after all you’re my son

Mark, I had to read this several times because it just touched me so much. I would love to hear this to music. What type would it be? I pictured an acoustic guitar and a cowboy hat. One correction - S7, L4 your - you're. Great job.

I really loved this piece and would love to hear the music. I really love the bittersweet tone. Heartfelt, emotional read. Great job!
