REMEMBER WHEN (unfinished)

by Mark Maxey

Remember when the times were a changing
pimpled skin exposed with a tingle in the heart
no words to express
but the moment you knew was special

and now when I write
I grasp for the right ones
but know it's not capturing what I feel

remember when you were there
when a moment of history was birthed
he spoke of how he just found out the supreme court sided with him
broke out in a song and applause that was electrifying
yes, the first ammendment is a special thing

remember when you were 19
and so was Bob
he was playing his first time at the Newport Jazz Festival
and only a handful of people were there
and no one knew who Bob Dylan would be
and you remember when you were there

Author's Note: written after a night with my editor...and she disucssed growing up in the 60's and seeing Bob the first time he played Newport Jazz Festival and seing Pete Seeger when the Supreme Court just announced a ruling in his favor that the 1st Amendment included the right NOT to speak
