Gulf Stream Rendezvous

by James Zealy

The Captain
Lazily saunters aboard
The Deep Sea castoff
Afro frizzed curls
Stick out from his dingy cap

A snaggle tooth grin
Greets the victims er passengers
Each one is checked off
The customer list

As the prospective mackerel Fishers
Board his dilapidated
Excuse for a boat
They pause for a thought
Are we the fishermen or the bait?

They are a Captive audience for his
His Tin cup Philosophizing
And massage parlor ethics
Cuz they be no refunds for this voyage

The Harried technophobe
Greets the ocean rolling
With his pale face, rumbling stomach
And wobbly landlubber legs

While the rest watch in disgust
As he retches his time away
To the tune of
“Sitting on The Dock of The Bay”

Alas the boat anchors
The lines drop
The fish plop
Passengers grin (Except you know who)

The return meets waves crashing
Dolphins racing
Deck rolling
And at last a safe harbor

As we collectively roll
Off the ancient cruiser
Somehow feeling better
For our Gulf Stream Rendezvous
