Baby Bites

by Mary Ellen Smith

oh say it isn't so
my dear lil grandbaby mine!

one moment sweet as sweet can be
I snuggle you
you nuzzle me.

your face suddenly turns dark
and just like a little teething shark
you thrash your head
from side to side

and go in for the BITE!

each baby tooth
each pearly white
has put in you an awful fight!

But I'll not stop hugging you my dear
but out of just a little fear
on you I'll keep a wary eye

you're still my sweetie pie.
