what we have wrought (v.1) by Karen MichelleDarkness at 3pm -
muted sun, angry sky,
familiar loop of reality.
I slide my fingers around
your neck; we return
to angular love.
We sleep, sandwiched between
heaven and a highway.
In the darkness we invert
our nightly embrace, awaking
to an estuary of remorse
stagnating between our spines.
Afternoon beckons with
redemption between her teeth.
You make vacant promises
to fold the sky into a sling
and seal these fractures
with foreign warmth.
Night falls at my feet.
You leave your boots
on my indigent doorstep,
muddy & resolute, as though
you belong with your belongings
taunting my flickering heart.
