Our Suffering Evolution

by Amanda Bullington

Time does not evolve evenly.
Some clips on the film of time remain the same,
While others change for better or worse.
At least that’s how the game’s played in your eyes.

Ruins are not replaced in a day.
They can be picked up and pieced together,
Or conquered, buried, and forgotten.
You’ll take the fool’s way, leaving the broken bits untended.

Love cannot be broken simply.
It exists eternally, though it can easily be
Destroyed by hatred and false regrets.
This you’d swear by, yet you often change your mind.

And our arguments will not be readily ignored.
Though trifling, the hot words course
Blue through my blood and yours.
Both headstrong, we’d die before admit our need of mending.
