In Between (My 23rd Birthday Poem) by Madeline PestolesiIn between the ages
Of pasting pictures of Ashton Kutcher,
Jude Law,
Or Lenny Kravitz
On every inch of white space I see,
And wearing business suits,
Sipping cappuccino,
And revealing my sexual escapades over a cosmopolitan,
And I am stuck,
For now,
Between a world of 17 year olds
And 30 year olds,
All shouting different bits of advice.
One side tells me
To add a second piercing to my navel.
The other side tells me
To save my money for a car down-payment.
Divided by my two selfs
A 17 year old,
A 30 year old,
I hide in my room
Clutching the bottle of scotch I am old enough to purchase
But not quite old enough to enjoy. 01/11/2005 Author's Note: I'll be 23 tomorrow. I know I'm not old, but I'm just at a weird "in between" stage. You know, like when kids are about 10 or 11 and they are about to go through puberty hard-core and they haven't grown into their body or facial features and just look weird. That's how I feel.

Posted by Shonda Chrissonberry on 02/04/05 at 07:25 AM I have a piece I wrote on my 23rd birthday, as a matter of fact it is the only piece I have ever written concerning my age progression. Maybe I will post it soon. I will be 30 in a little under two weeks and the years just go by faster. Enjoy them, they are here but for a "age". :) |
Posted by Jon-Jacob F Deal on 02/20/05 at 05:26 PM Eh, there are worse ways to spend your 23rd. Don't ask ;) I had mine this past November and couldn't help but think--"My little sister is 20 and will graduate college practically before I even get out of the Army... Holy crap, I'm old!" Haha. Good poem, I liked it very much.
