Feelings (Thinking of You)

by Uriel Tovar

You dig beneath me
Eat at the skin
Scratching at the outer brown
Drawing blood again.

You haven't been so kind
as to cut
But thanks for the burns
Scrapes along my side
Tissue flesh--left behind.

I still liked you
walking behind
I still have the memories
dragging behind
The poems and the tragedies
left behind.

Maybe next time it will be better.
Tomorrow again and again
Going around--
Falling for you. You didn't have to be so nice.
But I can't stay down (not for you)

Ah, a sun-salutation.
