Comfort food

by Mary Ellen Smith

It’s in the little chocolate kisses
Warm rich tea and pasta dishes.
Found in cinnamon and dough
These are some comfort foods we know.

When the days are wild and crazy
We yearn for just a moment lazy
In the cupboard, this and that
But we crave something made of fat.

Something fried from a potato
No broccoli or fresh tomato
Something from the baker’s shop
Awash with icing swirled on top.

We would be glad of course tis true
If when we’re sad or down or blue
A carrot or a celery stick
Would comfort us and do the trick.

LOL-Mary Ellen I enjoyed this-my mouth is filled with Kit-Kats-chocolate and crunchy. Comfort food indeed, and such great rhythm and rhyme.

Somehow I knew this poem would be about chocolate and donuts and such. Good work Mary Ellen. I enjoyed reading it. ;-)
