When the Sun fades

by Ava Blu

“as the sun fades and the tears won’t go away,
just remember someone is thinking about you”

these were the last words she heard from him
he took her sun away and he made the tears stay
now he thinks about her every damn day just to make her feel better
no
to make Him feel better about killing her soul
yes, killing her heart
yes, killing the happiness she used to know
and now….now he thinks of her
he used to fuck her
he used to love her
and he used to make the tears go away
but at least he knows she’s hurt and he thinks of her, right?
no, that’s not enough
he needs to feel her pain
he needs to experience pain
and his sun needs to be taken away
she used to laugh and smile
now she watches the years pass her by
hoping he’ll come back to her
and each year around what used to be their anniversary
he sends her the same card with the same words

“when the sun fades and the tears won’t go away,
just remember someone is thinking about you.”

she looked forward to the card because it made her feel important to him still
but with each year the hatred grows
she used to send a card back saying

“each day when the sun goes away, I still feel your love”

it never reached him though
he never left a return address
he didn’t care enough
but then one read he made a mistake and left a return address
so she sent him all of the cards she had ever written saying the same thing
but one said something a little different

“when I take your sun away and I make your tears stay,
just remember I’ve been thinking about you all these fucking years too”

he got all the cards and was very surprised with the last one’s message
he showed his new wife and they laughed together
how pitiful they thought she was
they threw the cards away and never thought about her again
he never sent anymore cards to his ex
five more years went by and it was time for a change

twenty years had gone by since the divorce
twenty years of waiting on him to come back
loving the cards he would send
it was too late now
she vowed revenge
she decided to send him one last card
but this one she would deliver in person

and this is how it went

“twenty years my sun has been fading and now it has disappeared altogether
twenty years the tears have flowed and now I’m all dried up
and twenty years I have let you make me feel worse
I’ve made myself forget when you cheated on me
but it’s too late now
now you will feel the pain you caused me”

she went to his house
she knocked on the door
read her card to him and his lovely little wife
then she stabbed him twenty times in his heart
and shot his wife in the head
left the card in their blood and walked away smiling
she had changed her name since they had been married
changed her whole life
there was no trace of the person she used to be
the person he married so long ago was dead
the police would never find her
didn’t even know how or where to look
they gave up and went on with their lives
ruled it an accidental death

now the woman is happy with a new life in a new city
but every year on their anniversary she visits her ex’s grave and this is what she leaves:

“as your soul burns on its way to Hell, and the maggots eat your flesh
just remember you did this to yourself and I will always be thinking of You.”
