Crayola Dream

by Ava Blu

I wanna be 4 again
Take me back twenty years
To kindergarten

I wanna be on that playground again
Monkey bars and kick ball

I wanna relive the bruised knees
And scratching tears
I want Mom’s remedy kisses

I wanna wake up before dawn
Trying to catch a glimpse of Rudolph

I want my coloring books back
And my box of seven crayons
I wanna color outside the lines
And leave the middle empty

I want my 8:00 bedtime
And Saturday mornings watching Under Dog
And eating ice cream soup for breakfast

I wanna laugh again
With utter innocence
And bursting joy

I wanna be able to smile at boys
Without them imagining me naked

I want hugs
Without consequences to follow
Without rules to break

I wanna be 4 again
I want memories without complications
And disasters

I wanna draw again with those 7 colors
But I’ve seen the boxes with more crayons now
And I can no longer be satisfied
With age four.

I want to be 24 again... Lovely poem - I like the images it conjures.
