Broken Love

by Christopher Shin

Street lights flicker
as the world becomes
to darken around me.
You tell me about the
love that seems to have
grown weary of you.

Yet all the words I say
can never comfort the
sadness in my own heart.
I realized that love is
but a fairytale,
and I'm more awake when
I was naive.

When did lovers's eyes become
full of spite and venom pour
out of bitter lips.
No longer blushing pilgrims,
but sinners and demons.

I'll never fall in love,
cause I would never like it
to end like how it was and is.
I'll never let words like
"It's over now" or "your flawed."

I'll walk away and wash my bitterness
down with memories worth being
angery about for now and forever.
So let my thoughts linger over
dreams that are nightmares.

"I'm more awake when I was naive"---very good line. Sad how true it is.
