Diamond Earring by Melina Raven Maness DieboldI lost my grandmother's earring
diamonds to wear
On Easter morning
I lost it
I've got to find it
her Mother's Day gift
from when she was 24
Please, dear God
let me find it
amid the brambles
and entertwined tangles
of that maroon-fibre jungle
before the villain vacuum assaults the floor
No luck...
Mourn
for my naked ear and orphan gem
I still had hope
but cleaning day came
I looked for that earring-
if my hope still held it there
Not there...
My jewelry box is lighter now
and I swear
I can hear that ballerina cry

Posted by Maureen Glaude on 12/29/04 at 10:55 PM oh boy, what an awful feeling. I'm not great with jewellery myself, don't ask what happened to two of my diamond rings from my husband! This is very effective and suspenseful. |
