Darkness

by Tota Longmire

Darkness surrounds me.
Breathing down my neck,
Like a lover wanting kisses.
The warm blackness surrounds
Promising for a time to save me,
Save me from their ever-prying eyes.
My friend, the soft darkness,
Caresses my cheek, wiping away
My tears, and shielding me,
Shielding me from those who
I do not wish to see me cry.
Thank you darkness,
My nightly friend.

Rain and darkness hide our tears. It's as if we're not to show emotion. Sometimes the darkness isn't scary, but a calming friend. Beautiful words; good work.
