Grandma's Christmas Tree

by Mary Ellen Smith

I remember Christmas lights
Wondrous twinkling merry sights
Wound round the evergreen just so
A compliment to bough and bow.

I remember angel hair
Placed on the Christmas tree with care.
Christmas balls in golds and reds
Angelic treetop ‘bove our heads.

I remember popcorn strings
Toy soldiers and other things
Ornaments of frosted glass
Little trumpets made of brass.

I remember under the tree
A Christmas town for all to see
Laid atop a drape of snow
The windows there a cozy glow.

I remember a bed of straw
Carved wooden animals in awe
Gazing upon a newborn child
The wise men standing by all smiled.

I remember all of this
Lovely Christmassy time bliss
Every time I see a tree
All dressed up and tinselly.

Ironically fitting for the season, upcoming. Very sweet in its memories. I can almost smell the chestnuts.
