Memorable Battles by Kenneth Lau
Tis the season of lost causes
Last ditch attempts
To make right what is wrong
Trying to fit the key
In the wrong lock again
It is the time
When hearts are most tried
But faces betray little emotion
For the eyes are tired of crying
And the lips are weary of trembling
So a blank, empty expression
Faces a world of destructive pain
Tis the season
Just prior to irrevocable change
What fails now fails forever
What survives these months
Has many left to endure
We all hover on change
New worlds await
But time creeps along
And those worlds still lie
What seems a lifetime away
Hearts pound harder, heavier
Than times past
We see things slipping away
But put off our tears
In an effort to save what we can
Those tears will never fall
The winds of life will dry them
Before we can stain the earth with sorrow
What carries through
Helps shape who we become
While that which is lost
Is set aside, yet not forgotten
All things, great and small
Will lend to the novel of life
Those lost tragedies
Will one day reach ears
As old men and women
Sit in chairs with their families
Telling of the days of youth
It is that time
When some things end
Falling into hidden crevices
Buried by the success story
Waiting to be found again
When the story is over
And the dust is brushed away
These days are intense
As we try to save
Those things we hold dear, those things
Which we use to define ourselves
But saved or lost
They WILL define who we become.
