I love you, I hate you

by Jayme L Helmick

How do I love thee?
Let me count the ways . . .

I kept your secrets
Dried your tears
Showed you things you've never seen
I came to see you
Every two weeks
And made myself your queen
I wrote you letters
Took your calls
And pined for your embrace
I took your demands
Bowed to your needs
Even at my own disgrace
I bled for you
I cried for you
I begged for you to be mine
I pledged my heart
I pledged my life
And asked for something in kind
I stood by you
When all others fell
And said you hung the moon
I never gave up
Though you pushed away
What I thought was way too soon
I still would die
I still would bleed
If it proved I love you still
Though it's too late
And not good enough
To revive what has been killed.

How do you love me?
That's easier to define . . .

You berate me
Curse at me
Call me names:
I am a Thief
Liar
Whore
Not worthy of your affections
You use me
Manipulate me
Expect me to still be yours
Though your heart is free
I belong not to me
But to your demands of
friendship and More
The slightest infraction
is Death in your mind
No matter what the intent
It has to be Your Way
or No Way at all
And God forbid
Heaven forbid
You forbid
I actually try to disagree!

You are a Thief
Liar
Bastard
Destroyer of my heart
Bulldozer of my love
Dumptruck of my best
and Trashcan of my mind

I love you . . .
I hate you . . .

Fuck you for what you've done to me!
