Truthfully, For You

Truthfully, For You

I tell you I am building
a bionic heart that
cannot be broken.

A smile hides in the corner of your lips
because you know that even now I try
to muster a joke. You see my lip
quiver. I hide it with my hand.

You told me that you could not love
a woman who was not honest.
I cannot be caught in the grey.
our honesty is so clear now.

I give you my back and try to
shake it off. You whisper in my
ear that things cannot change,
paths are different. You brush
my hair away from my neck.
I try to ignore it.

You tiptoe as not to sting yet
you fail miserably. You are
accidentally stepping on my
toes. Your silence makes
everything worse.

You tell me you are
taking on the center of the
universe.

I tell you
that I wish
it were
me.
