Skin Deep

by Rebecca Lin

I don't understand
Why everyone looks the same
All of a sudden.
It doesn't make sense
That beauty is something you can judge.
Sitting there, watching them,
Only feeling anger,
I hold a grudge.
What a dreadful thing to do
To scorn someone who looks different than you.
And without emotion, without a sigh,
You make them bleed,
You make them cry,
You make me sick
And that's no lie.

Beauty comes from within the heart,
But how are so many people so beautiful
If they have no heart?
It's an ironic twist given to life,
But we must live through all the strife.
"The skin just veils the soul"
And true beauty comes from within.
Malicious, artificial people
Are void inside
And have nothing more to them.
These tired bodies do us no good
Our spirits are truly beautiful.
If they still don't believe,
Then somebody should.
