All She Needed to Hear

by Christel Crews

Alone, no one would say those things she needed to hear
She would not hear them tomorrow
For tomorrow, she would find things just like today
Alone, being the rock for everyone around her
The tears fall, alone she grasps the only truth
She wants to find
All she ever desired was to love someone
All she wanted to hear was that she was desired
She needed to hear she was beautiful
Not as a ploy to get her into a bed
But in truth, reckless abandonment
Turning to her bed, she lays her head
Breathing a sigh, for tomorrow
Alone, she would awake
Paint her face
And make it through the day
Not hearing what she needed to hear

The pain and longing of the everyday is as poignant as any epic tragedy. Hopefully one day she will hear these things. The ending is very open.
