Sunflower by Amanda Conloguetime drags me down until
I'm rooted to this spot
listening to voices
drone on, bumblebees
buzzing by still flowers
my heavy-weighted head droops
a slouch of surrender
acceptance of stillness
I watch the sun rise and set
warm sunlight dwindling
into cool twilight twinkle
of stars and jet vapor trails cut
silver ribbons through ever deepening
blue sky, I sigh, a breeze
rifling through petals and leaves
waiting for my love to come along
and take note of me beyond
the stillness and quiet and pluck
me up from the soil 11/22/2004 Posted on 11/23/2004 Copyright © 2025 Amanda Conlogue
