Needy Pillows

by Max Bouillet

...and the fanatic is blind
because the alleged guardian angel
roosting on his head
has pecked out his eyes,
stuffed his soul with feathers,
and made him into a pillow
for his god to lay upon.

...and on those nights
when gods get rowdy,
pillow fights end in broken
flesh, shattered souls,
and the need for more pillows.

Inverted poetry, Max. I'm picturing Mom opening the door to find two deities jumping on the bed holding on to empty carcasses with little bits of soul flying around the room like down. Somewhat macabre, but very clever in a nightmarish way. I like your tumultuous style! Pe4ce...

Well, the picture is certainly disturbing! The poem, however....hmmm. I must say I don't like the idea of gods using us as tools for pillow fights. But that's just one explanation out of many possibilities, eh? As always, you have made me think...though at the moment I'm stuck with the mental image of a guardian angel/chicken...I think it was the words 'roost' and 'peck' that did it. :)

Powerful poetic expression (definition) of the fanatic whoever that may be!

there is more going on here than meets the eye, and i will have to ponder it for some time. i didn't see the jpeg, but the piece itself conjures up frightful thoughts. who could be the guardian angel? optimism? an absent parent? who controls the puppet strings? who are the true victims? and the gods, they sound less like the all encompassing god of sunday school, and more like rupert murdoch.
