Falling Stars and Wishing Wells

by Mike Loftis

Somewhere a star is falling
a young girl shuts her eyes
and makes a wish that she could find
a love that never dies
She’s heard of things called faerie tales
but does she dare hope for
the kind of love they tell about
that lasts forevermore

Somewhere else not far away
a boy walks by a well
throws in a coin and makes a wish
he’s not allowed to tell
In his heart he knows he’d trade
all the treasures in the world
to know if even for a moment
the true love of a girl

So close and yet so far away
their wishes go unknown
Afraid to risk their hearts on love
Doomed to spend their lives alone
She’ll still wish upon the stars
and he upon the well
Lonely hearts content to wait
for love to cast its spell

Wonderful...wonderful...full of emotion, longing, and what every person in this life really strives for...to be loved.

Evanescent poetry, Mike. The lure and elusiveness of that magical moment everpresent in this nicely scripted piece. Pe4ce...

This is a really nice piece. I've often cursed the fairytales that give us such expectations, and yet I find myself relating to your young girl. I really like this.

Wow this is perfect and so true! We all wish to know true love and yet many times don't recognize it/go after it when it's right in front of our faces. Love love love this poem. Snaps for you!
